Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, active DHH teaching certification, and 1+ years Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A skilled educator with expertise in teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is sought for a school-based contract position in West Valley City, UT. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the educational development of students with hearing challenges, employing specialized teaching strategies and support tailored to their needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods to enhance language, communication, and auditory skills.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including audiologists, speech therapists, and classroom teachers to support student success.
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
- Advocate for necessary accommodations and resources to optimize learning environments.
- Engage with families to provide guidance and support regarding student development.
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
- Experience working with children who have hearing impairments in educational settings.
- Strong understanding of communication modalities such as American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-oral methods, or total communication.
- Ability to create adaptive lesson plans and implement assistive technology.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
