MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR/THERAPIST
Part-Time
Position Reports to: Clinical Manager
The Mental Health Counselor/Therapist provides high-quality, client-centered behavioral health services to support the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of individuals, families, and groups. This role is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions that promote resilience, recovery, and improved functioning. The counselor collaborates closely with interdisciplinary team members, community partners, and support networks to ensure coordinated care and positive client outcomes. Through ethical practice, cultural humility, and trauma-informed approaches, the Mental Health Counselor/Therapist contributes to creating a safe, supportive environment that empowers clients to achieve their treatment goals and enhance their overall quality of life.
Clinical Assessment & Treatment
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, risk screenings, and diagnostic evaluations to inform treatment planning.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based practices and align with client goals and regulatory requirements.
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy to clients presenting with mental health, behavioral health, and/or co-occurring substance use needs.
- Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approaches in all therapeutic interactions.
- Monitor client progress, adjust interventions as needed, and ensure timely completion of treatment plan updates and reviews.
Caseload Management
- Maintain an active caseload and ensure consistent therapeutic engagement with assigned clients.
- Participate in treatment team meetings to discuss progress, barriers, discharge planning, and continuity of care.
- Ensure smooth transitions through levels of care, including referrals to internal and external services.
Administrative & Documentation Responsibilities
- Document all clinical interactions accurately and promptly within the electronic health record (EHR), adhering to agency standards and compliance requirements.
- Maintain required certifications, trainings, and continuing education to support licensure and program compliance.
- Prepare reports or summaries as requested for audits, reviews, or external agencies.
Collaboration & Coordination of Care
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members—including case managers, licensed therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and community partners—to coordinate comprehensive services.
- Communicate professionally with families, support networks, and referral sources as appropriate, ensuring confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with community agencies to support client engagement and access to resources.
Supervision & Professional Development
- Participate in program meetings, trainings, case consultations, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Actively engage in professional development to stay informed about emerging clinical practices and regulatory updates.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain safety standards by adhering to OSHA, HIPAA, Fire & Safety, and organizational policies.
- Support crisis intervention efforts, including safety planning and coordination of emergency services when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and organizational needs.
Job Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a human services or behavioral health field.
- Familiarity with standard business software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Minimum 2 years working with adults with substance use disorders and/or mental health diagnoses
- Experience working with Criminal Justice preferred
- ASAM certification preferred
- Completion of all trainings required for licensure and agency compliance.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and ethical clinical practices.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to behavioral health service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage crises and apply appropriate intervention strategies.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet regulatory timelines.
- CPR and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license, registration, and access to a reliable, functional vehicle.
