When a Grove GMK arrives with intermittent electrical faults, or a Manitowoc EPIC unit shows hydraulic drift, you’re the craftsperson who brings precision back to complex machines. In this shop-based role, you’ll report to the Service Manager and blend analytical troubleshooting with hands-on repair to keep mobile and lattice cranes safe, reliable, and compliant.
Impact you’ll make
Your expertise turns nuanced readings from micrometers and gauges into confident decisions. You interpret manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings, and confirm every repair through rigorous testing against OEM specifications.
Core duties
- Operate and inspect cranes to identify defects and performance issues.
- Diagnose, repair, and troubleshoot mobile hydraulic and lattice cranes, including hydraulic and electrical components.
- Measure wear and damage; read and interpret operating and parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Test mechanical, electronic, electrical, and hydraulic systems post-repair to ensure OEM compliance.
- Stage work by verifying parts lists and drawings.
- Carry out meticulous annual inspections.
- Document work activity: work reports, hours reports, time sheets, hours overviews, and expense reports.
- Operate independently with minimal supervision while providing excellent customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Your background
- High School Diploma or GED; at least two (2) years as a Crane Mechanic/Technician preferred.
- Experience with Grove RT & TMS, Grove GMK European, Manitowoc EPIC/Traditional, and National Boom Trucks preferred.
- Proficient in reading electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Strong communicator with a customer-first approach.
- Valid driver’s license and solid driving record preferred.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Own a complete set of hand tools up to 1.5 inches.

Work environment & schedule
Full-time role, generally 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, with potential overtime and weekend work based on demand. The shop environment includes exposure to temperature extremes, weather, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and loud noise. Physical aspects include occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; frequent lifting/moving up to 40 pounds; and vision demands including close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
