The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care for pediatric patients in a behavioral health setting. This role requires experience in psychiatric care, the ability to work with children and adolescents, and strong communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, families, and patients. The LPN delivers care under the supervision of RNs or primary nurses and participates in unit-based activities.
Key Responsibilities

Provide majority of patient care functions in an acute care or behavioral health setting with minimal orientation and supervision

Greet patients and direct them to exam rooms; prepare for exams

Assist with routine clinical tasks during exams, including setting up trays for injections
-
Take and record vital signs, measure and monitor patient progress

Assist with general office duties such as reception, appointment scheduling, chart preparation, and filing

Contact insurance companies for authorizations for therapies, procedures, and surgeries
-
Coordinate with primary care physicians to obtain referrals or extend existing referrals
-
Administer injections and assist with other procedures as directed

Maintain cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms and clinical areas

Implement nursing care activities under the direction of primary or associate nurses as outlined in care plans

Observe and report patient responses to treatments

Participate in activities related to nursing unit management
Required Qualifications
-
Active New York State LPN license
-
Current CPR certification or ability to recertify

Minimum 1 year of experience as an LPN

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
-
Prior inpatient hospital experience (minimum 1 year)

Pediatric experience
-
Psychiatric / behavioral health experience
-
Experience performing or assisting with EKG applications

Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
