Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of a professional membership-based
nonprofit organization, overseeing its strategic direction, operations, and administration. This
role is responsible for ensuring the organization’s programs, services, and initiatives align with
its mission to support and advance its professional community. The Executive Director manages
a leadership team, oversees key personnel decisions, and works closely with the Board of
Directors to ensure effective governance and sustainable growth. This position also involves
overseeing compliance, financial management, and external relations to enhance the
organization’s reach and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Personnel Management
- Oversee daily operations, including staff management, recruitment, supervision, and
professional development. - Foster a culture of growth, collaboration, and innovation among staff.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions, performance expectations, and evaluation
processes. - Conduct periodic reviews of organizational structure to ensure efficiency and alignment
with industry trends. - Ensure compliance with labor laws and maintain appropriate classification of positions.
- Advocate for competitive compensation and professional development opportunities.
Administration & Financial Oversight
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures in collaboration with the
- Board.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor effectiveness.
- Oversee budget development, financial planning, and expenditure tracking.
- Report financial performance and operational updates to the Board.
- Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and update governing documents and policies as needed.
- Identify and secure revenue sources, including memberships, grants, sponsorships, and
partnerships.
Program Development & Strategic Growth
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services to ensure they meet the needs of
- members and stakeholders.
- Develop new initiatives and strategies to enhance the organization’s impact.
- Represent the organization at conferences, industry events, and in professional
networks. - Stay informed of industry trends and provide guidance on best practices.
- Serve as a liaison between members, service providers, and stakeholders.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders about organizational updates and industry
developments. - Attend all Board meetings and leadership retreats.
Future-Oriented Planning
- Identify external risks and opportunities that may impact the organization.
- Develop long-term strategies for sustainability and growth.
- Work with the Board to create and implement a strategic vision.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of six years of relevant experience, with at least three years in nonprofit
- leadership or program development.
- Ability to adapt to changing industry trends and external challenges.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a commitment to integrity and
transparency. - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse range of
stakeholders. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors and leadership teams.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable organizational culture.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Availability for evening and weekend work when required.
- Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in an office environment with extended periods of computer use.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs.
- Travel required for conferences, stakeholder meetings, and industry events.
