Staff Accountant
Overview
The Staff Accountant handles core accounting operations with a strong focus on payroll support, cash management, reconciliations, and employee-related financial processes. This role works cross-functionally with HR, Sales, and Operations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and smooth day-to-day financial activity.
Responsibilities
- Process bi-monthly payroll including timecards, commissions, bonuses, tips, and adjustments
- Review payroll registers, resolve discrepancies, and respond to employee payroll questions
- Support I-9 approvals, unemployment claims, garnishments, and workers’ compensation cases
- Monitor daily bank activity and manage ACH deposits, returns, and postings
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and payment activity monthly
- Code transactions to the general ledger and maintain accurate financial records
- Collect, audit, and reconcile company credit card receipts
- Manage petty cash for retail locations and enforce spending controls
- Write and process checks for invoices and other payments
- Support benefits administration by reconciling invoices and assisting with employee inquiries
- Assist with audits, system transitions, and special accounting projects
- Serve as backup and training support for payroll and accounting team members
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience, payroll experience preferred
- Strong reconciliation and general ledger skills
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage confidential information and meet deadlines
