Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Logistics and Transportation Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient movement of goods through effective transportation planning and coordination. This position requires a strong understanding of logistics, distribution center operations, and process improvement strategies to enhance our supply chain efficiency. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, or a related field OR a minimum of two years of logistics or transportation management experience, ideally in a cold chain or temperature-controlled environment.
Duties
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers across all modes (Parcel, LTL, Truckload, Intermodal) to ensure consistent, cost-effective service for both inbound and outbound logistics.
- Manage partnerships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs) that support temperature-controlled warehousing and distribution.
- Evaluate shipping terms from vendors and customers (delivered pricing, freight prepay & add, pickup terms) to determine the most effective freight strategies in terms of cost, service level, and compliance.
- Coordinate with internal departments—including Customer Service, Procurement, Production, and Sales—to align transportation needs with operational goals and customer expectations.
- Analyze demand forecasts and production schedules to ensure transportation capacity is planned and secured in advance.
- Lead freight consolidation and holding strategies to maximize load efficiency while minimizing storage and handling costs.
- Ensure that all deliveries meet customer warehousing and delivery policies, including compliance with specific temperature and documentation requirements.
- Monitor customer scorecards and take proactive steps to maintain high service ratings.
- Investigate root causes of accessorial charges (e.g., detention, temperature violations) and drive solutions to prevent recurrence and reduce costs.
- Review and approve freight and warehousing invoices for accuracy and alignment with contractual terms.
- Manage freight claims as needed, ensuring swift and fair resolution.
- Track and report on logistics KPIs and provide visibility into transportation and logistics spend for the executive leadership team.
- Maintain compliance with relevant food safety standards, including HACCP, SQF, and USDA regulations, as they relate to transportation and storage.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
