As a Hospice Chaplain here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do:

  • The Hospice Chaplain at Interim HealthCare - New Boston, OH provides compassionate spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families facing end-of-life challenges. Working within a multidisciplinary hospice team, the Chaplain offers guidance, comfort, and hope tailored to the individual’s beliefs and needs, helping them find meaning and peace during this difficult time.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide spiritual care and counseling to patients and their families coping with end-of-life issues, grief, and loss
    • Work collaboratively with the hospice team, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, social workers, volunteers, and other professionals to support the patient’s holistic plan of care
    • Assess patients’ and families’ spiritual and emotional needs and incorporate these into the care plan
    • Facilitate rituals, prayer, or other spiritual practices as requested to support patients’ and families’ beliefs
    • Serve as an advocate for patients’ spiritual and religious rights and preferences
    • Offer bereavement support and grief counseling to families before and after the patient’s death
    • Provide crisis intervention and support during times of spiritual distress
    • Document spiritual assessments, interventions, and patient/family responses in medical records

    Requirements

    • Ordained clergy or equivalent spiritual counselor credential with experience in hospice or palliative care preferred
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to support diverse religious and spiritual beliefs
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Empathy, compassion, and the ability to provide comfort in challenging emotional situations
    • Basic computer skills for documentation
