Job Description
We are seeking skilled Mechanical Technicians to help convert traditional freight rail cars into advanced electrified, self-driving vehicles. This role is an essential part of our Build & Integration team and requires strong hands-on mechanical expertise. You will work across multiple disciplines to support system assembly, mechanical integration, and troubleshooting—serving as a key contributor to successful product build, deployment, and long-term support.
Responsibilities
- Perform cutting, welding, and general fabrication work on new and modified hardware based on mechanical drawings, CAD models, and verbal instructions.
- Assemble mechanical platforms, frames, and custom enclosures to support complete system installations, including pneumatics, hydraulics, drivetrains, high- and low-voltage power systems, cooling, sensors, and control components.
- Assist with material handling and movement of assemblies using forklifts, cranes, and other shop equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical assemblies to ensure high-quality, reliable integrated system performance.
- Diagnose and resolve issues on fielded systems, provide ongoing product-lifecycle support, and perform preventive maintenance on equipment as needed.
Essential Skills
- Technical Associate’s Degree in a related field, or equivalent hands-on mechanical experience.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
- Experience diagnosing mechanical failures, identifying root causes, and performing effective repairs.
- Skilled in reading and applying information from product manuals to perform maintenance and repairs.
- Ability to occasionally lift, pull, push, stoop, climb, reach, bend, and work in tight or awkward positions as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in mechanical assembly, repair, and installation.
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and welding.
- Ability to read and understand CAD drawings.

Work Environment
Work as part of dynamic teams of 3–10 members across a variety of projects. Build strong interpersonal and communication skills to excel in a highly collaborative environment. Adapt to evolving build designs and operational changes introduced through prioritized capability enhancements. Work a consistent Monday–Friday schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Louis, MO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
