Job Summary
The Content Managing Editor exudes passion for content marketing, operational excellence, and coaching. He/she is responsible for fulfilling company objectives related to content marketing products and services and can ascertain and manage scalability for an expanding product/service line and account base.
The Content Managing Editor is responsible for effectively and efficiently overseeing day-to-day content team activities for the assigned products/service. The Content Managing Editor will manage the assignment and completion of the team’s work; ensure that content is high-quality and effective; and also contribute as an individual to the production and maintenance of content and other Editorial aspects of the assigned products/services. He/she is focused on coaching a high-performing team whose productivity and quality have a direct bearing on corporate strategy to profitably acquire and retain customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the assigned products’/services’ content team members and manage their day-to-day activities, including ensuring all work is properly assigned/scheduled; ensuring established processes are followed, quality standards are maintained, and deadlines are met while staying within budget; providing additional guidance to the team as needed; etc.
- Work with Content leadership to oversee resource allocation, measure staffing capacity and productivity, and provide regular reporting and analysis to Senior Management.
- Work with Content leadership to set, communicate and improve as needed content team procedures and quality standards
- Understand customers’ content marketing goals and help translate goals into executable content-production/maintenance strategies
- Follow relevant legislation and other developments and work with the content team to ensure we're providing new and updated content to customers in a timely manner, where applicable
- Ensure high-quality, effective content is being produced across assigned products/services, such as by reviewing/approving topics and reviewing/editing the work of the content team and any contractors
- Address escalated content issues to repair client relationships and set proper expectations for future content
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams including Product, Service, Sales, Design and Development to continually advance effectiveness of content, customer satisfaction and department growth
- Contribute to new product and service development and improvement initiatives related to content
- Complete content/editorial work for assigned products/services/customers, such as but not limited to writing and editing content
- Other duties as assigned by management
Key Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications:
- A BA in journalism, communications or marketing (or equivalent training/experience)
- 7+ years of experience in an editorial or similar content-related role that included writing and editing responsibilities
- 2+ years of experience leading a content team
- Experience using AI to assist with researching, creating and editing content while saving time and producing high-quality results
- Familiarity with the profession(s) of the customers of the assigned products/services and the content they need plus experience producing content for the profession(s)
- Ability to effectively research and understand a complex topic and write content on that topic that is original, clear, concise, accurate, timely (to the extent applicable), relevant and effective while staying within the applicable word count limit and following appropriate style and format guidelines
- Ability to effectively edit content (and provide additional guidance/coaching as needed) submitted by a team member or outside contractor to ensure the content is original, clear, concise, accurate, timely (to the extent applicable), relevant and effective while staying within the applicable word count limit and following applicable style and format guidelines
- Familiarity with best practices and trends in email marketing, search engine optimization (SEO) marketing and/or social media marketing and how to create and edit effective content based on the medium and purpose – to the extent applicable to assigned products/services
- Expert-level English proficiency, including strong knowledge of grammar rules
- Experience following a style guide (such as AP Style or Chicago Manual of Style)
- High attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate articulately both verbally and in writing, and translate complex subjects for a diverse audience
- Strong time management and project management skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines
- Proven methods to manage self and others, including delegation
- Sensitivity, tact and the ability to honor confidentiality
- High tolerance for change and respect for dynamic entrepreneurial management philosophy
- Experience working in the MS Windows environment
Physical/Mental Requirements for the Job:
- Prolonged periods of sitting
- May be requested to work overtime and weekends if deemed necessary
- Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds
- Certain management positions might be required to occasional travel
