QA Tech

Job Purpose

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for supporting food safety and quality programs by performing inspections and monitoring activities throughout the production process. This role ensures that products meet internal standards and regulatory requirements for safety, quality, and consistency.


Essential Functions

· Assist in troubleshooting product discrepancies

· Internal audits and premises, including glass & brittle inventories

· Verification & ensuring that finished product labeling procedures are followed

· Conduct Monthly/Quarterly/Bi-Annual/Annual tasks as required by the Food Safety Calendar

· Regular review of production, and other records & assist with production needs

· Assist in compliance with appropriate 3rd party Audits & HACCP

· Review and assist in development of QA procedures & 3rd party Audits

· Perform daily, product quality & Food safety checks.

· QA walk-throughs, verify GMPs are followed in the facility and set example by always practicing correct GMP procedures

· Monitor plant operations to ensure sanitary operational procedures are followed according to GMPs

· Perform pre-operational/Allergen inspections, monitoring food safety and quality

· Foster effective working relationships with internal departments

· Initiate and complete the hold process for non-conforming products, raw materials, and other materials as required; follow up and complete disposition when determined

· Verify batch formulas and product labels ensuring activities are complete and meet specifications

· Monitor and verify CCPs/preventive controls as required

· Perform equipment calibration as assigned

· Perform environmental swabbing for bacteria and pathogens as required

  • Perform product and equipment testing for allergens
  • Identify and report food safety issues and assist in conducting investigations into food safety issues, foreign material findings, and customer complaints
  • Support food safety program, quality standards, and legality of manufactured products
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned


Qualifications (Education, Experience, Competencies)

  • Associate's/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Basic knowledge of general food safety programs and policies including government regulations
  • Knowledge of GFSI audits BRC/SQF systems
  • HACCP background
  • Ability to read and understand plant SOPs, work instructions, GMPs, and Food Safety instructions
  • Operational knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications
  • Basic problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate effectively in person, by phone and email
  • One to three years of related work experience required in the food safety area
