Join Our Team as a Locum Nurse Practitioner – General Medicine NC

VHS, a leading provider of medical staffing solutions, is seeking dedicated and highly skilled Nurse Practitioners to serve as locum providers in the General Medicine field across North Carolina. This vital role supports our nation's veterans through non-treatment Compensation & Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct compensation and pension examinations and separation health assessments primarily through interview-based evaluations, with some physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing.
  • Operate on a PRN basis, with flexibility for half-day or full-day shifts.
  • Perform non-treatment exams without prescribing or providing treatment.
  • Efficiently complete exams, documentation, and report submissions within designated timeframes.
  • Work independently using your own office location within specified geographic areas in North Carolina.


Required Skills:

  • Active Nurse Practitioner license in North Carolina.
  • Experience in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine.
  • Strong interviewing and assessment skills.
  • Ability to perform physical assessments related to range of motion and muscle strength.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational abilities.


Nice to Have Skills:

  • Prior experience with Compensation & Pension examinations or military-related assessments.
  • Familiarity with government or veteran healthcare procedures.
  • Additional certification in orthopedics or related specialties.


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience, preferably in internal or family medicine.
  • Prior experience working in a veteran healthcare setting is advantageous.


Other Requirements:

  • Must have own office location within specified radius.
  • Willingness to work on a PRN basis with consistent availability.
  • Ability to complete mandatory training and perform initial exams.
  • Local candidates only; travel is included in the pay rate.
  • Background checks and credentialing required prior to start.
  • No reimbursement for certifications or portal training prior to engagement.


Hourly Rate: $402.00
