Job Purpose
The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company standards.
This role involves leading corporate and local initiatives to promote a culture of safety, conducting risk assessments, and providing guidance and training to employees. The EHS Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify potential hazards, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement in environmental, health, and safety performance throughout the facility.
By ensuring a safe and sustainable work environment, the EHS Manager plays a critical role in safeguarding the well-being of employees and minimizing the organization's environmental impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
Safety
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Survey to identify and evaluate safety conditions. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal safety regulations.
- Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Create and execute comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs tailored to the manufacturing environment
- Develop controls for identified hazards. Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.
- Collaborate with HR in the overall administration of workers' compensation program.
Environmental
- Conduct regular environmental monitoring and assessments to ensure compliance with environmental standards and analyze data and prepare reports on environmental performance.
- Monitor workplace environments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Implement measures to control and reduce emissions, discharges, and waste overseeing the operation of pollution control equipment and systems.
- Develop and manage programs for the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste promoting recycling and waste minimization efforts.
- Develop and maintain spill response plans and train employees on spill prevention and response procedures coordinating and managing clean-up efforts in case of environmental incidents.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate the potential environmental impact of new projects or changes in operations recommending mitigation measures to minimize adverse environmental effects.
Health
- Develop and implement occupational health programs to monitor and promote employee health and well-being
- Conduct health risk assessments for various job roles and tasks.
- Implement programs to monitor exposure to hazardous substances, such as chemicals, dust, noise, and radiation ensuring that exposure levels are within permissible limits and take corrective actions if necessary.
- Conduct regular health screenings and medical surveillance programs for employees exposed to specific health risks collaborating with occupational health professionals to address health issues and maintain records.
- Implement ergonomic programs to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders assessing workstations and tasks to identify ergonomic risks and recommend improvements.
- Prepare reports on health metrics and communicate findings to management maintaining accurate records of health-related incidents, exposures, and medical evaluations.
Trainings
- Conduct assessments to identify the specific training needs of different employee groups based on their roles and exposure to potential hazards.
- Develop a training matrix that maps required training to specific job functions.
- Design comprehensive training programs that cover key EHS topics, such as hazard communication, PPE usage, emergency response, and environmental compliance.
- Create training materials, including presentations, manuals, and online modules, tailored to the specific needs of the facility.
- Conduct regular drills and simulations to prepare employees for emergency situations, such as fires, chemical spills, and natural disasters.
- Train employees on evacuation routes, assembly points, and the use of emergency equipment.
Certifications and Audits
- Conduct internal audits and inspections to ensure that the facility is in compliance with OSHA regulations developing and maintain documentation required for OSHA compliance, such as safety plans, injury logs, and training records.
- Act as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspectors during audits coordinating and accompany inspectors during walkthroughs, providing necessary information and access to facilities.
- Collaborate with the QMS team to address BRC and ISO audits and related EHS aspects for plant certifications.
Others
- Prepare and maintain EHS reports and dashboards (Excel and/or Power BI) related to EHS KPI´s.
- Develop and manage EHS budget and resources effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop reports for Six Sigma initiatives and Kaizen projects.
- Coordinate the purchase, proper use, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipment
- Perform other work-related tasks as required and assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental/Engineer Sciences required.
- Master’s degree or professional certifications are a plus.
Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Will be a specialist in regulatory affairs having an understanding of environmental and food safety regulations across local, state, and national organizations.
Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong interpersonal, coaching, and influencing skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication abilities.
- High emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) prefered (oral and written fluency).
- Will require high level of communication skills. Will use tact and diplomacy in addressing employee complaints. Must be an excellent team player who is a self-starter. Must be highly motivated and flexible to handle changes both within the corporation and in the legal environment.

Working Conditions
Variety of office environment and a manufacturing production floor. Individual must understand and adhere to all safety requirements of the facility. Temperature inside/outside variance is 40 degrees to 130 degrees; high humidity; seasonal variation of 20 degrees or more. Hearing protection required for occasional intermittent noise.
Physical Requirements
Able to freely move throughout the plant and on occasion sustain lengthy work periods. Must be able to climb stairs, work in tight places, work around chemicals, and perform office duties.
