Summary:

Plans, lays out, and performs complex TIG welding (GTAW) and MIG Welding (GMAW) on a variety of parts and components such as tubes, ducts, and other products. Welds various types of metal and alloys in all positions to meet uniformity, strength, vacuum tightness, and pressure requirements. Certified to work on Aerospace and Military parts. Trains other employees and works with NPI to launch new products.


Hours: Friday through Sunday, 5:00am to 5:30pm (includes 25% shift differential!)

Requirements:

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Responsible to perform a variety of setups and welding on a variety of parts, including Aerospace and Military applications, without assistance.
  • Complies with safety rules, including PPE and OSHA standards, and reports unsafe conditions to management.
  • Reviews orders, routers, job travelers, and inspection instructions to determine operation sequencing, process methods, materials, and equipment to be utilized.
  • Prepares work-piece surface before and after weld operation using cleaners, hand and power tools.
  • Selects and sets up weld material and equipment. Install the workpiece onto the holder. May trim workpiece using a band saw or other means.
  • TIG and MIG weld various metal alloy workpieces in various positions with a uniform bead.
  • Monitors workpieces and equipment throughout the welding process to detect issues.
  • Performs visual inspections for conformance. Makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Proficient at using the computer to clock in and out of jobs and obtaining and recording process data, and completes required forms.
  • Performs inventory material handling, including retrieving, moving, and storing material, tooling, and work pieces.
  • Trains other employees in the safe and proper operation of equipment.
  • Works with the New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to develop processes and procedures for new parts, including determining and documenting new setups and processes.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe environment and maintains 5 “S” standards. Complies with safety rules, including PPE and OSHA standards.
  • Participates in Lean initiatives, eliminating wastes including overproduction, defects, transportation, waiting, inventory, motion, and over-processing.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Required Skills and Experience (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications, or other knowledge, skills, and abilities).


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years GTAW precision welding experience.
  • Ability to pass AWS D17.1 qualification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to meet Class A and C requirements with Penetrant and X-Ray Inspection. Must be able to pass annual visual exam.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in welding various alloys, material thickness range: 0.030 to 0.75 inches.
  • Ability to operate GTAW and GMAW equipment, hand and power tools, band saw, row racks, and pallet jacks.
  • Knowledge of wire and filler materials, joint set up and purging applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials.
  • Knowledge of torch types, shielding gases, welding voltage types, welding polarities, and tungsten electrode types.
  • Must be able to weld in various positions, including flat, horizontal, and inclined.
  • Proficient reading, writing, oral communication, and comprehension in the English language.
  • Intermediate blueprint reading skill set.
  • Ability to perform visual workpiece surface inspection.
  • Math ability, including arithmetic and geometry.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Cooperative attitude, shares critical information, and remains professional in difficult situations.
  • Self-directed; ability to work independently.
  • This position requires the use of information or access to hardware that is subject to the International Traffic in Arms
  • Regulations (ITAR). All employees must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee.


Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred or helpful)

  • Aluminum and titanium weld experience per AWS D17.1.
  • Aerospace weld fabrication experience preferred.
  • Completion of GTAW/GMAW training program through vocational school or apprenticeship is preferred.
