La Rabida Children’s Hospital provides specialized, family-centered health care to children with medically complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness. Through expertise, compassion, and advocacy we help children and their families reach their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay.
Our not-for-profit hospital, licensed for 49 beds, helps transition children from neonatal or pediatric intensive care to home, by providing medical, rehabilitative and developmental care, and by training families to continue treatments and manage the necessary equipment in the home. La Rabida also provides extensive rehabilitation for those recovering from wounds or burns and treatment for exacerbations of chronic conditions.
The hospital’s enhanced pediatric patient-centered medical home provides primary care to children with complex medical conditions and their siblings. Children with medical homes elsewhere come to La Rabida for specialty services. La Rabida offers a wide range of specialty services provided to children with sickle cell disease, diabetes, and many others. Children are supported in their emotional and developmental growth, particularly in cases where such growth has been interrupted by accident or disease.
Finally, La Rabida provides forensic and treatment services for children exposed to abuse and neglect, comprehensive assessments for youth in care, early intervention for children between 0 and 3 years of age. Care coordination services for medically complex children are also provided for those who are covered by a health plan and receive care from providers in Cook County
Job Description
The X-Ray Technologist will perform general and portable radiography exams, EKG’s and all duties related to the orderly function of the Department of Radiology.
- Complete and process radiographs, including all essential paperwork.
- Review physician's order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.
- Maintain an effective client (physician and patient) and interdepartmental relations.
- Maintain technical expertise.
- Complete and process radiographs -
- Position and transfer patients
- Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis
- Select and operate equipment
- Provide immobilization devices as required
- Provide protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
- Process diagnostic images
- Review images for proper positioning, technique, and identification.
- Responsible for completing all exams prior to leaving shift after checking with patient departments
- Radiology Staff is Responsible for after hours ON-CALL.
- Operate the department in an efficient and effective manner under approved hospital and departmental policies and guidelines -
- Follow hospital infection control policies
- Maintain adequate records
- Responsible for completing logbook, verifying requisitions and orders coordinate
- Maintains order and cleanliness of radiology department
- Responsible for transmitting of images and EKG's for reports and finalizing information in the patients EMR
- Responsible for confirming images with correct orders are sent to PACS for the Radiologist
- Maintain an effective client (physician, provider and staff) and interdepartmental relations -
- Interact with patients and families in a professional manner
- Act as a technical resource for the physician or clinical departments
- Perform EKGs -
- Perform EKGs following the established departmental guidelines
- Prepare and sends EKGs to the University of Chicago Department of Pediatric Cardiology for interpretation
- Deliver completed EKG interpretations to the physician and appropriate areas (nursing unit or medical records)
- Maintain technical expertise -
- Attend continuing education workshops
- Maintain CPR certification
- Maintain current State of Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety license
- Maintain current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certificate
Qualifications
- Completion of a formal radiology technology training program at an American Medical Association approved school (will accept new grads).
- At least one (1) year experience in a clinical radiology and experience with Computerized Radiography or Digital Radiography.
- Current Illinois Radiology Technologist License is required. Accreditation by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is required and this accreditation must be renewed every two years. An American Registry of Radiologic Technology certificate is required. Annual renewal of this certificate is required.
- CPR required. Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
