Position Summary
The Director of Nursing is a key member of the leadership team responsible for the overall management, coordination, and quality of nursing care in our Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role ensures clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency while fostering a supportive, patient-centered, and team-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing excellent customer service and respect to patients.
- Maintaining professional and supportive interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members.
- Monitoring day-to-day internal flow and surgeon relationships.
- Leading and participating in Pre-Op, PACU, and the operating room(s)
- Coordinating the activity within the operating room suite(s).
- Maintaining adherence to operating policy/procedure manuals.
- Monitoring the team’s daily schedule and ensuring the optimization of resources and workflow for budget efficiencies and patient care.
- Showing skill in crisis management and emergency services in the ambulatory surgery center setting.
- Producing regular reporting on surgery center metrics as requested by Supervisor and as required for licensing.
- Holding regular meetings for alignment (and education) with the surgical team and all the other Company stakeholders.
- Participating in development of surgery center annual budgets and maintaining cost conscious management for staffing, equipment, and supplies.
- Ordering necessary supplies in a timely manner and within budget and coordinating the provision and control of materials, supplies and equipment with the Manager of Surgical Technology.
- Coordinating with the Manager of Surgical Technology for capital equipment maintenance and required service schedules for all surgical capital equipment including management of routine and non-routine servicing.
- Coordinating with the Manager of Surgical Technology to maintain a capital equipment list and proposal for capital purchasing within budget.
- Participating in leadership meetings and initiatives.
- Performing general managerial duties of the surgical team which include but are not limited to recruiting, interviewing, hiring, performance coaching, team scheduling, role delegation, training and encouraging overall staff engagement and satisfaction.
- Maintaining timely and accurate medical records and documentation.
- Managing survey readiness, infection control and quality outcomes (serve as the “Safety Officer” and “Infection Control Officer”.
- Managing environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and directing emergency preparedness drills.
- Ensuring that Standard Universal Precautions, the National Patient Safety Goals, and principles of aseptic and sterile technique are used appropriately.
- Maintaining licensing requirements for the State of Arizona Department of Health and Human Services.
- Maintaining licensing and certification requirements for MEDICARE/MEDICAID.
- Maintaining additional accreditation requirements. Current accreditation with American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF).
- Performing other duties as required or requested by Supervisor.
Requirements:Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arizona, BSN preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in a surgical or ambulatory surgery center setting, with at least 2 years in a leadership/management role.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards (Medicare/Medicaid, AAAASF, or similar).
- Demonstrated leadership skills in team management, scheduling, and staff development.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage budgets, resources, and vendor relationships.
- Proven ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations.
