Position Title: Assistant Foreperson
Department: Shipping Minnesota Propagation
Reports To: Foreperson / Department Head
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: This position plays a key role in the daily operations of the shipping department. This position works closely with the Shipping Foreperson to guide and motivate the shipping team, ensuring that all plants are prepared, packaged, and shipped accurately, safely, and with care. The ideal candidate leads by example—fostering a respectful, collaborative, and positive work environment. The position involves organizing crews, monitoring and improving workflow, maintaining metrics and standards to help the team achieve its goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Shipping Foreperson in coordinating daily shipping schedules and priorities.
- Supervise and train employees in proper handling, labeling and packing of plants.
- Ensure all orders (both internal and external) are accurately pulled, staged, loaded for delivery and proper paperwork, documentation and notifications are completed accurately.
- Communicate effectively with inventory, logistics team, and other internal ship points to ensure timely order fulfillment.
- Inspect product before shipping to maintain quality standards and prevent damage.
- Ensure crew leaders have proper supplies/equipment and information needed for a safe and efficient workflow.
- Monitor process inputs/outputs to assure maximum productivity. Tracking daily performance against metrics and benchmarks set by Foreperson.
- Practice and enforce Bailey Nurseries company policies and safety protocols.
- Be familiar with operating the necessary equipment needed in the process. Including but not limited to pallet jacks, forklifts and golfcarts.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Basic computer skills and ability to read and complete documents, reports, and computer tasks in English, required.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate closely with a diverse, multicultural workforce; openness to learning about different cultures and languages is valued.
- Ability to assess tasks and suggest improvements to efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Willingness and availability to work extended hours, including weekends during peak season, as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, or willingness and aptitude to learn.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment: This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind. PPE may be required in certain work areas.
