POSITION SUMMARY
Freedom House Ministries, Inc. is seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented, and strategic leader to serve as our Director of Finance & Operations. This role is responsible for the financial health, operational efficiency, and organizational integrity of Freedom House, ensuring that systems and resources support our mission to shelter families through faith and dignity.
As a key member of the executive leadership team, the Director provides oversight of all financial operations, including budgeting, payroll, grant compliance, insurance, and vendor contracts. In addition, the position supervises the Associate Director of Operations, who manages day-to-day human resources, benefit administration, and employment practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Strategy & Oversight
- Lead the development, implementation, and management of annual organizational and program-specific budgets.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly reconciliations and performance dashboards.
- Maintain robust internal controls and fiscal policies aligned with nonprofit best practices and GAAP standards.
- Prepare for and coordinate annual financial and grant audits, support compliance and reporting requirements.
- Supervise bi-weekly payroll processing and ensure tax and benefit deductions are accurate and compliant.
- Manage vendor relationships, insurance coverage, contract negotiations, and benefits programs.
- Serve as a strategic financial advisor to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Operations & Compliance
- Oversee and evaluate organizational systems, processes, and technology to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Partner with the Executive Director in managing operational risk and developing sustainable infrastructure.
- Ensure organizational compliance with regulatory requirements related to finance, employment, and insurance.
Human Resource Oversight
- Supervise the Associate Director of Operations in carrying out HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and staff transitions.
- Guide and support employment policy updates, employee handbook revisions, and legal compliance.
- Contribute to a healthy, values-aligned workplace culture rooted in trauma-informed care and dignity.
Leadership & Mission Alignment
- Actively contribute to organizational strategic planning and mission delivery.
- Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, compassion, and continuous improvement.
- Model Freedom Houses core values in interactions with staff, guests, partners, and the community.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (masters degree preferred).
- Minimum of 57 years of progressive leadership in finance and operations, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, grants, audits, vendor contracts, and insurance.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit financial management and compliance.
- Supervisory experience with a proven ability to mentor and support direct reports.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, and payroll/HR platforms.
- High ethical standards, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
