Location: 1501 Trousdale Dr, Burlingame, CA 94010
Shift: Day Shift, 3x12-Hour (07:00 AM – 07:00 PM)
Schedule: No Block Schedules

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) RN to provide advanced, specialized care to critically ill patients with complex cardiac and vascular conditions. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and delivers comprehensive care to patients recovering from cardiac surgery, cardiac interventions, and those requiring mechanical circulatory support.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio in a 24-bed CVICU.
• Manage critically ill patients, including those post-CABG, ECMO, Impella, IABP, TAVI/TAVR, and other cardiac interventions.
• Monitor and manage invasive lines and devices, including arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, pulmonary artery catheters (Swan-Ganz), and ventricular drains.
• Assist in respiratory management including ventilator care, BiPAP/CPAP, suctioning, and high flow nasal cannula.
• Administer medications including continuous IV sedation, cardiac drips, vasoactive infusions, and procedural sedation.
• Interpret and respond to cardiac dysrhythmias and hemodynamic monitoring data.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services.
• Float to Surgical ICU (SDICU) as needed.
• Adhere to infection prevention protocols, isolation precautions, and use of PPE.
• Document patient care and interventions accurately using Epic charting system.

Required Qualifications:

• Current California RN License.
• BLS (American Heart Association) certification.
• ACLS certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Minimum 2 years of CVICU nursing experience.
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records system.
• Ability and willingness to float to the SDICU as needed.

Clinical Skills:

• IV therapy including accessing ports, arterial line management, and PICC line care.
• Respiratory support skills including ventilator management, chest tube care, and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
• Cardiovascular care including management of ECMO, Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump, and post-cardiac surgery patients.
• Neurological care including management of external ventricular drains, hypothermia protocols, and stroke care.
• Proficiency in blood product administration, wound care, and urinary catheterization.
• Medication administration including cardiac drips, sedation, and vasoactive agents.
• Infection control and surgical wound management.

Work Environment:

• Fast-paced CVICU with a daily census of 16-20 critically ill adult and geriatric patients.
• Interdisciplinary support including respiratory therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, and more.
• Facility equipped with advanced monitoring devices such as CRRT, IABP, ECMO, Swan-Ganz catheters, ICP monitoring, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.

Additional Information:

• Patient ratio: 1:2 for day, night, and weekend shifts.
• Weekend coverage every other weekend.
• Orientation period of 20 hours.
• One pre-approved time off request allowed.
