The North Rockland (Haverstraw-Stony Point) Central School District is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Principal at the middle school level (Grades 7-8). This is a full-time 12-month position which includes a regionally competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package. Valid NYS administrative certification (SAS, SDA, or SBL) is required. Bilingual candidates who are fluent in Spanish are encouraged to apply.


About the Role


The Assistant Principal will support the principal and administrative team in delivering effective leadership across instructional and administrative areas, cultivating a positive, academically driven school climate.


Professional Responsibilities


  • Work closely with students and their families to address academic challenges, behavioral concerns, and social-emotional development, ensuring student success both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist in overseeing student behavior management, ensuring the consistent application of the District Code of Conduct and upholding the principles of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) in all disciplinary actions.
  • Conduct regular observations of teachers and provide constructive feedback, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Collaborate on the development and alignment of curriculum and instructional strategies, ensuring that New York State Learning Standards are met and that best practices are implemented effectively in the middle school setting.
  • Partner with faculty and staff to promote professional growth, providing mentorship, professional development opportunities, and creating a collaborative culture that enhances instructional quality.
  • Review student performance data in conjunction with department leaders, using data insights to drive targeted interventions and improve student outcomes across the school.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of the school, including assisting with scheduling, managing budgets, and ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to enhance the learning environment.
  • Foster strong relationships with parents, community members, and district leadership, encouraging their active participation in school initiatives and shared responsibility for student success.
  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive school atmosphere, ensuring that every student feels respected, safe, and valued within the school community.
  • Facilitate and participate in collaborative teacher meetings, encouraging ongoing dialogue and professional development to support instructional excellence.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of safety protocols and crisis management plans, working alongside security teams and local agencies to maintain a secure and orderly environment for all students and staff.


Preferred Qualifications


  • At least five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level, with a demonstrated commitment to student achievement, instructional excellence, and school improvement.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of New York State Learning Standards and middle school curriculum, ensuring instructional alignment with state guidelines and student learning needs.
  • Expertise in implementing research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction, student-centered learning, and targeted interventions for English language learners and students with disabilities.
  • Proven ability to observe, assess, and evaluate instructional practices, providing constructive feedback to educators to enhance teaching effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • In-depth understanding of the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) and its role in student discipline, ensuring the implementation of equitable, restorative, and developmentally appropriate behavioral interventions.
  • Strong capacity to build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, families, and community partners, fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic educational setting.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish meaningful connections, mediate conflicts, and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.


Required Qualifications
