Job Description
The Compressor Technician is responsible for supporting the commissioning, operation, inspection, and maintenance of gas compression equipment and related facilities. This role assists with bringing new compression units online, performing inspections during construction and expansion projects, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently. The technician works closely with operations personnel, mechanics, and contractors to troubleshoot equipment issues, perform basic repairs, and maintain accurate operational records.
This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to learn compressor operations, and a commitment to safety and operational efficiency. Work may include field travel, on-call responsibilities, and operating company vehicles to access equipment locations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with commissioning and decommissioning conventional and high-pressure compressors.
- Coordinate and support pressure testing and startup activities for new or modified compression units.
- Inspect compression equipment and facilities during construction and expansion projects.
- Perform final inspections and participate in pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR).
- Learn and support daily operations of gas compressor systems and compressor facilities.
- Maintain equipment areas and facilities in a clean and organized condition.
- Perform basic troubleshooting to identify, diagnose, and repair or replace mechanical and operational equipment issues.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date reporting related to facility operations and equipment status.
- Interact regularly with operations personnel, technicians, mechanics, and contractors to coordinate work activities.
- Respond to on-call duties and travel to field locations as required.
- Operate vehicles safely while traveling to equipment sites and facilities.
- Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned by supervisors.
Skills
- Mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic understanding of compressor systems and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to inspect equipment and identify operational issues.
- Strong attention to safety procedures and operational standards.
- Effective communication and coordination with team members and contractors.
- Ability to maintain accurate operational reports and documentation.
- Basic technological proficiency for operational reporting and communication.
- Ability to work independently in field environments and respond to on-call situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Approximately 2–3 years of mechanical, industrial, or oilfield-related experience preferred.
- Experience with compressor operations, including gas lift systems, preferred.
- Familiarity with ancillary compression equipment such as fuel gas systems, engines, transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), or motors preferred.
- Knowledge of automation or control systems related to compression equipment is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Ability to work in field environments and travel to equipment locations as needed.
Job Details:
Location: Midland, TX
Pay: Level I - 50-55/hr Level II - 80/hr Level III - 100/hr
Schedule: 8/6 10hr – Thursday hitch, with OT as needed - Rotators
