Step A: $29.5240 Hourly ($61,410)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field -AND- one (1) year of experience performing professional casework and/or providing treatment services in a mental health, behavioral health or legal setting.

JOB SUMMARY: Performs professional casework duties and provides support for clients through client-centered representation in the field of indigent public defense; Works collaboratively with attorneys to assess client needs, identify local resources for housing, substance abuse, mental health, employment and other services, and makes appropriate referrals to those community resources. Draft reports and provide support for attorneys to advocate for reduced sentences and/or alternatives to incarceration. Assists in preparing and accompanying clients to court appearances and participates in hearings as requested by defense attorney; works under supervision; performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts detailed sociological and economic investigations of adults and/or juveniles.
  • Conducts interviews with appropriate parties as required.
  • Writes case histories and/or casework studies and makes recommendations.
  • Counsels adults and/or juveniles as directed.
  • Recommends appropriate payments where required.
  • Investigates facilities to determine if they meet county standards.
  • Prepares legal petitions as required.
  • Makes referrals to community agencies as required.
  • Serves as liaison with other agencies.
  • Implements programs as required in the specific department.
  • Transports clients.
  • Testifies in court as needed.
  • Coordinates activities of volunteers and/or interns.
  • Provides information to the public as required.
  • Maintains a variety of casework records and prepares special and periodic reports as required.
