About the Role
Our client, a leading national big-box retailer headquartered in Minneapolis, is seeking an Art Director to support their seasonal in-store experience marketing campaigns. Known for its trend-forward design sensibility and guest-centric retail experiences, this Fortune 50 company partners with creative talent to bring fresh, culturally relevant concepts to life across hundreds of stores nationwide.
This is a contract opportunity through our staffing firm, placing you directly on the client's internal store experience creative team. The Art Director will partner with in-house creatives to deliver high-level campaign concepts through final execution for seasonal in-store experiences.
Shift Information: Must be local to the Minneapolis area and able to work onsite up to 3 days per week as needed. Job Description
The ideal candidate combines strong conceptual thinking, storytelling, and visual world-building skills with hands-on design capabilities. Photo art direction experience involving product, talent, style, and fashion is a strong plus.
This role requires regular onsite participation for store walkthroughs, prototyping, creative reviews, and collaboration with internal stakeholders. You will concept, design, and art direct projects from high-level theme through final asset delivery, ensuring creative consistency across seasonal campaigns and brand touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-level creative concepts and seasonal campaign themes
- Translate campaign concepts into marketing deliverables for in-store seasonal campaigns, as well as deliver creative assets for other seasonal brand channels
- Create creative presentations, mood boards, and pre-production decks to communicate campaign vision and execution plans
- Partner with designers, art directors, writers, production teams, producers, creative directors, and marketing teams throughout the creative development process
- Concept, design, and art direct from high-level theme through final asset delivery for production teams
- Ensure creative consistency across seasonal campaigns and brand touchpoints
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and translate feedback into creative solutions that align with business and marketing objectives
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 57+ years of professional design and art direction experience
- Proven experience developing and executing seasonal marketing campaigns, experience supporting seasonal marketing initiatives such as Back-to-School, Holiday, or similar campaigns
- Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual strength and high craft standards in retail, brand, campaign, design, typography, and photo art direction
- Deeply attuned to culture, retail trends and evolving guest behaviors
- Strong design experience seeing work through concept development into post-production
- Experience creating and presenting creative concepts, mood boards, and pre-production materials
- Ability to translate high-level campaign themes into customer-facing marketing assets
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional creative, marketing, and production teams
- Strong visual storytelling, composition, and brand design sensibilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects within seasonal campaigns simultaneously
- Expert knowledge of all Adobe Creative Suite software and the Mac platform
- Must be local to the Minneapolis area and available to work onsite up to 3 days per week
Preferred Qualifications
- Retail and consumer brand experience
- Experience in print design, 3D design, and/or experiential physical space design
- 3D modeling program experience
- Experience supporting seasonal marketing initiatives such as Back-to-School, Holiday, or similar campaigns
- Experience developing creative assets for in-store experiences or digital marketing campaigns
- Experience working within large enterprise brand environments
