Job Description
The right floor can transform a space. Knowing how to price it — accurately, competitively, and fast — is what keeps a flooring contractor in the game. Our client is a well-established, full-service commercial and residential flooring contractor based in the Greater Kansas City area, offering everything from design consultation through self-performed installation across hardwood, carpet, tile, LVT, LVP, and more. Founded on a commitment to craftsmanship and customer experience, this is a team that takes pride in doing the work right and winning the work worth doing. If you're a flooring estimator who thrives on takeoffs, knows your materials cold, and wants to grow your book of bids with a company that has the showroom, the crews, and the reputation to back it up — this one's worth a conversation.
What You'll Own
- Produce accurate, detailed estimates for commercial and residential flooring projects across multiple product categories including hardwood, carpet, tile, LVT/LVP, vinyl, and specialty materials
- Perform precise material takeoffs from blueprints, specs, and field measurements
- Prepare and submit competitive bids within required timelines, coordinating with suppliers and internal teams on material pricing and lead times
- Maintain and grow relationships with general contractors, project owners, designers, and procurement contacts
- Follow up on submitted bids, respond to scope clarifications, and support project handoffs to operations when work is awarded
- Track bid activity and win/loss data to inform pricing strategy over time
- Source pricing from manufacturer and distributor partners and stay current on product availability and cost fluctuations across the product mix
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience estimating flooring projects in a commercial or residential subcontracting environment — this is a takeoff and bid role, not an inspection or QC function
- Strong working knowledge of flooring products across categories: hardwood, carpet, tile, LVT, LVP, VCT, and vinyl at minimum
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, architectural specs, and finish schedules
- Familiarity with estimating software and standard construction bid processes
- Organized and deadline-driven — someone who can manage a bid calendar and keep multiple estimates moving simultaneously
- Strong communication skills with clients, GCs, and suppliers
- Kansas City market knowledge is a plus, though not required
Benefits
- Benefits package details to be confirmed with client
- Opportunity to grow with a locally established, craft-driven flooring contractor with deep roots in the Kansas City market
- A role with real ownership — this is not a support function, it's a seat at the revenue table
