Position Details
Location: Opportunities available in Dover, Milford, Smyrna, and Milton, Delaware
Status: Full-Time, 80 Hours
Shift: Variable
General Overview
Emergency physicians are responsible for delivering comprehensive care to patients of all ages who arrive at the emergency department. Their main duties include resuscitating or stabilizing patients and directing them to the appropriate medical departments. Collaboration with specialists and other emergency department staff is essential. Emergency physicians must assess a wide range of conditions, often with limited information, and must be adept at making quick decisions regarding diagnoses and treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct immediate evaluations and manage emergency patients upon arrival.
- Assess patients efficiently to determine their conditions and maintain departmental flow.
- Order necessary medical tests and develop treatment plans based on results.
- Create effective patient care plans.
- Refer patients to relevant specialists as needed.
- Ensure patient stability before transferring them to the appropriate department for further evaluation.
- Provide discharge instructions and necessary paperwork, including prescriptions.
- Maintain accurate medical records for patients.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Complete patient charts in the EPIC system within 72 hours of the consultation.
- Review and co-sign charts from Advanced Practice Clinicians within 72 hours of receipt.
- Submit monthly availability for scheduling within the established timeframe.
- Maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education, including annual training.
- Review all medical reports related to patients.
- Attend staff and committee meetings unless otherwise excused due to work commitments or approved absences.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
Qualifications
- Education: Doctor of Medicine; completion of an Emergency Medicine Residency.
- Credentials: Board Certified in Emergency Medicine; Physician MD; DEA Diversion Control Division; Physician - Controlled Substance Registration or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) licensure.
- Experience: Completion of an Emergency Medicine Residency is required.
