Job Summary
The Class C Customer Delivery Driver is responsible for transporting plant material to local customer job sites and between Devil Mountain nursery locations using company delivery trucks.
This role is responsible for safe vehicle operation, secure load transport, and reliable execution of customer deliveries. The Driver represents the company on the road and at customer locations and must demonstrate strong safety awareness, professionalism, and care in protecting plant quality during transport.
This is a safety-sensitive position governed by the Company’s Fleet Policy and insurance requirements.
Essential Functions
- Hold a valid driver’s license and qualify under company auto insurance standards.
- Operate company delivery trucks in compliance with company safety standards and Fleet Policy requirements.
- Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections and report mechanical or maintenance concerns immediately.
- Safely stage and secure loads, ensuring proper weight limits and safe transport.
- Deliver plant material to business, residential, and construction sites.
- Communicate estimated arrival times and maintain professional, courteous customer interactions.
- Assist with loading and unloading plant material as needed.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance or roadside repairs when necessary.
- Support general care of nursery grounds and plant material when onsite.
- Follow all company safety standards and Fleet Policy requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist the loading department with staging and loading customer orders onto delivery trucks.
- Support other nursery departments as needed.
- Duties are subject to change at management’s discretion.
Experience & Other Requirements
Required
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to qualify under company auto insurance standards.
- Strong safety awareness and defensive driving practices.
- Ability to secure loads and manage weight limits safely.
- Customer service mindset and professional communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred
- Basic knowledge of plant identification and plant handling practices to help ensure plant quality during loading, transport, and delivery.
- Experience delivering to residential or construction job sites.
- Mechanical aptitude.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This is a safety-sensitive, outdoor role requiring operation of a company delivery truck approximately 50–80% of the time.
Work conditions include varying weather, uneven ground surfaces, active equipment and vehicle traffic, and exposure to dust, plant material, and typical nursery conditions. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as applicable.
Physical requirements include:
- Sitting or standing 50–90% of the time.
- Frequent bending, twisting, and turning.
- Gross grasping for securing loads and handling plant material.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. (25% of the time).
- Team lifting up to 100 lbs. (15% of the time).
