Job Title: Asphalt Paving Technician
Job Description
The Asphalt Paving Technician supports paving crews in the installation and repair of asphalt surfaces for roadways, parking lots, and driveways. This position involves physically demanding outdoor work, including manual labor and the safe operation of hand and power tools, while contributing to high-quality paving and construction projects on the east side of the city.
Responsibilities
- Shovel, rake, and spread hot asphalt to specified grades and finishes.
- Assist paving machines and help level and smooth asphalt surfaces for roadways, parking lots, and driveways.
- Support milling and paving operations, including basic operation and assistance around milling machines as directed.
- Set up, monitor, and maintain worksite safety measures, including cones, signage, and barriers.
- Follow all safety guidelines, site rules, and instructions from supervisors and crew leaders.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas at the end of each shift.
- Perform general construction and laborer duties as needed to support the crew and project schedule.
- Work collaboratively with crew members to complete projects efficiently and to quality standards.
- Adapt to changing tasks and priorities based on project needs and supervisor direction.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of experience in the construction industry performing asphalt laborer duties.
- 3+ years of experience operating hand and power tools in a construction or paving environment.
- Experience in construction or asphalt work, including paving or related site work.
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work for 10–12 hour days.
- Ability to work in hot and varying weather conditions for extended periods.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work well within a crew.
- Reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to follow direction and safety procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with asphalt paving, including shoveling, raking, and finishing.
- Experience in concrete work or general construction tasks.
- Familiarity with milling machines and asphalt milling operations.
- Basic carpentry skills related to construction and site preparation.
- Willingness to take on general laborer duties as needed to support the crew.
- Openness to learning new skills and receiving hands-on training in paving and general contracting.

Work Environment
This role is field-based and outdoors, supporting paving projects within approximately a one-hour radius of the shop in Plum, primarily on the east side of the city. Typical work hours are roughly 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with 10–12 hour days Monday through Friday, and candidates must be flexible to work overtime and weekends as needed during busy periods. Technicians may report to the shop and ride out to the job site with the crew or drive directly to the site if they live nearby. The work involves exposure to hot and changing weather conditions, hot asphalt, dust, and active construction environments. The position requires frequent lifting, bending, shoveling, and standing for long periods while using hand tools, power tools, and paving equipment. Dress is practical and safety-focused, with appropriate work boots, workwear suitable for outdoor conditions, and any required personal protective equipment provided or specified by the employer.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plum, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
