POSITION SUMMARY

Group Sales Manager

The Group Sales Manager is responsible for proactively soliciting, developing, and managing group business within assigned market segments to drive room nights, revenue, and overall resort performance. This role focuses on building strong client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and closing group sales that align with Shanty Creek Resorts’ accommodations, amenities, and service offerings.

Success in this position requires hands-on sales execution, strong attention to detail, and a consultative approach tailored to the unique needs of each group client.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain regular, proactive contact with all assigned and existing accounts within designated market segments.

  • Identify, research, and develop new group business through prospecting, correspondence, personal outreach, and telephone sales efforts.

  • Qualify and re-qualify new and existing accounts to ensure alignment with resort offerings and revenue objectives.

  • Meet or exceed weekly activity standards, including qualified sales calls, property tours, and/or outside sales calls, as established by the Director of Sales.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all resort operations, including:

    • Food & Beverage

    • Guest Services

    • Conference Services

    • Reservations
      to effectively promote the full Shanty Creek Resorts experience.

  • Conduct professional, thorough site inspections that clearly communicate the features, benefits, and value of the resort to prospective clients.

  • Achieve individual booking activity goals in alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.

  • Complete required weekly and monthly sales reports accurately and on time.

  • Monitor competitor pricing, services, and facilities; communicate relevant insights to the Director of Sales.

  • Adhere to all Shanty Creek Resorts sales policies, procedures, and selling techniques, with a focus on maximizing occupancy, Average Daily Rate (ADR), and overall revenue.

  • Accurately maintain client and booking data within the resort’s sales management system, including account setup, space blocking, reporting, and booking documentation.

  • Travel as necessary for sales calls, trade shows, site visits, and industry events.

  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing team to support promotional initiatives and strengthen the resort’s brand image and unique market position.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITY

  • The Group Sales Manager is assigned specific market segments and is accountable for achieving established quarterly and annual goals, including:

    • Room revenue

    • Room nights

    • Average Daily Rate (ADR)

  • Goals are set by the Director of Sales in collaboration with the Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

GUEST SERVICE & PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

  • Conduct themselves in a courteous, professional manner in all interactions with guests, coworkers, vendors, and partners.

  • Recognize that this role involves significant guest contact and decision-making that directly impacts the experience of group clients; strict adherence to service standards is essential.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & SKILLSExperience

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of professional sales experience, preferably within a hospitality, hotel, or resort environment.

Education

  • Associate’s Degree in Sales, Hospitality, Business, or a related field required.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel frequently.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in typing (minimum 45 words per minute).

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is primarily based indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure.

  • Frequent out-of-town, business-related travel is required.
