Position Summary
The College Counselor guides high school students and families through the college admissions process, including college selection, applications, essays, academic planning, and financial aid resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise students and families on college admissions and application strategies
- Support students with essays, resumes, and application materials
- Develop individualized college planning timelines
- Provide guidance on scholarships, FAFSA, and financial aid
- Conduct student and parent workshops or informational sessions
- Maintain accurate student records and progress updates
- Stay informed on college admissions trends and requirements
- Maintain database of student information
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred
- Experience in college counseling, admissions, or education
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of college admissions processes and planning tools
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple students
Preferred Qualifications
- Essay coaching experience
- Experience with diverse or international student populations
- Membership in organizations such as National Association for College Admission Counseling preferred
Work Environment
Flexible remote, hybrid, or on-site schedule with occasional evening or weekend availability during peak admissions periods.
