A leading organization in the logistics industry is seeking a Senior Operations Manager to oversee the performance and operations of its logistics and dispatch teams, including Dispatch Coordinators and CY Dispatch Managers. This role requires an experienced leader with a strong background in dispatch operations, proven expertise in operations at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and experience managing logistics involving 50+ commercial Class A drivers. The ideal candidate will also have familiarity with PortPro TMS, Samsara, or other Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and GPS tracking tools, along with a deep understanding of strategic planning and operational leadership to drive efficiency and excellence across all functions.

Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Team Oversight:

  • Supervise and mentor key roles, including CY Dispatch Managers, Dispatch Coordinators, and Logistics Dispatchers, fostering a high-performing, accountable team.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities to ensure staff are equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
  • Oversee operations for container yard (CY) dispatch activities and driver coordination, focusing on optimizing performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for operational challenges and customer concerns.

Operational Management:

  • Lead and manage dispatch operations, including driver assignments, route planning, and container pickups/deliveries, especially for Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
  • Utilize tools such as PortPro TMS and GPS tracking systems like Samsara to monitor and improve driver performance.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (operations, sales, and customer service) to align on client expectations and resolve issues promptly.
  • Oversee scheduling, performance metrics, and compliance to ensure operational efficiency and meet customer requirements.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all dispatch operations comply with company policies, transportation regulations (DOT, OSHA), and port-specific requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay updated on transportation regulations, industry standards, and port operations to maintain compliance and competitiveness.

Technology and Process Optimization:

  • Manage the implementation and utilization of TMS platforms and GPS tracking systems to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
  • Analyze operational data and KPIs to identify trends, recommend process improvements, and implement cost-saving strategies.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to enhance logistics operations.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute strategies to optimize logistics operations and meet business goals.
  • Coordinate with senior leadership to align operational objectives with broader organizational goals.
  • Lead initiatives for operational expansion, ensuring readiness for increased volumes or geographic coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in logistics or transportation management, including supervisory roles.
  • Proven experience in dispatch operations, including Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
  • Experience working with operations involving 50+ commercial Class A drivers is required.
  • Familiarity with PortPro TMS, Samsara, or other TMS and GPS tracking systems is helpful.
  • Comprehensive understanding of intermodal logistics, drayage, and terminal processes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and port-specific regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily an office-based role, requiring extended periods of computer use and phone communication.
  • Occasional field visits to container yards and port terminals.
  • Light lifting of office supplies, usually not exceeding 25 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
