JOB OVERVIEW

As a key member of the Engineering & Design team, the Designer is responsible for developing accurate and innovative mechanical designs that meet customer specifications and support new product development. This role involves creating detailed layouts, ensuring manufacturability, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. The Designer works closely with engineers, project managers, and production teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready designs.

ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but not limited to)

  • Develop design layouts based on customer specifications, using both standard and custom design approaches.
  • Create complete and accurate 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare engineering documentation and models for order release to manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical assemblies and provide technical support internally and to customers.
  • Layout customer drawings for processing on lasers, punch and press breaks.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering staff to ensure all customer requirements are met.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Office, and Outlook proficiently for documentation, communication, and data analysis.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the standard parts library.
  • Identify and propose process improvements to enhance team efficiency and product quality.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical design or 3+ years in a design role.
  • Proficient in mechanical design, sheet metal, and structural steel fabrication.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD 2D/3D; SolidWorks experience preferred, PDM a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, with excellent time management and decision-making.
  • Effective team player, communicates well, and handles pressure/feedback.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes, and manages multiple projects efficiently.
  • Eager to learn and follow departmental standards.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel may be required.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong professional references with a proven record of excellent attendance, reliability, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
