Job Description

About the position

The Cold/Hot Header Operator is responsible for the complete setup and operation of various Cold/Hot header machines. This role involves performing operations such as forming, shaping, cutting, and piercing on different sizes and types of metal wire and bar stock, adhering to close tolerances as specified in blueprints or other documentation. The operator must independently adjust machine parameters, including diameters, grip lengths, and depths, to meet precise tolerances of + .0007. The position requires the use of various tools and equipment, such as wrenches, pliers, calipers, and micrometers, to maintain and repair the machines as necessary. Additionally, the operator is expected to troubleshoot and rework any issues that arise during the production process. In this role, the operator will load wire or bar stock into the machines, ensuring proper positioning and securing of materials. They will select the appropriate machine speed and tooling based on efficiency and required tolerances. Continuous monitoring of the work in progress is essential to ensure proper functioning of the equipment, and the operator must secure necessary inspection approvals, including first article inspections when required. The operator is also responsible for maintaining accurate production logs and documentation, utilizing computer software applications or production worksheets to track progress and maintain records for subassemblies, materials, tooling, and rework. The Cold/Hot Header Operator will read and interpret blueprints to determine the necessary machining operations and plan the sequence of operations on the headers. As an active team member, the operator will participate in problem-solving and team-building activities aimed at improving production processes, productivity, and quality. Effective communication skills are crucial, as the operator must relay any issues regarding quality or workflow to appropriate personnel and may be required to train less experienced employees in machine setup and operation.
