About the Role
We are seeking a knowledgeable and hands-on Building Engineer with strong Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls experience to support daily operations, maintenance, and optimization of building systems. This role is critical to ensuring optimal equipment performance, occupant comfort, and energy efficiency across the facility.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems as well as proven experience working with automated control platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily monitoring, troubleshooting, and adjustments of Building Automation Systems (BAS), including sequence tuning, alarm management, and trend analysis.
- Maintain, repair, and optimize HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Diagnose issues related to temperature controls, VAV boxes, dampers, boilers, chillers, pumps, and air-handling units.
- Interpret and update control schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Respond to service requests, alarms, and system faults in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and integrators for system upgrades, repairs, and commissioning.
- Monitor building performance and support energy management initiatives.
- Maintain accurate logs, work orders, and reports using CMMS or other facility management tools.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and facility policies.
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of building maintenance or engineering experience, with a minimum of 2 years working directly with BAS or building controls.
- Strong understanding of HVAC principles, mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting, and general facilities maintenance.
- Experience with one or more BAS platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Trane, Distech, Delta Controls, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control sequences.
- Familiarity with VFDs, low-voltage controls, DDC programming concepts, and energy-efficient operating strategies.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work on ladders, in mechanical rooms, and occasionally in outdoor conditions.
Preferred Skills
- OEM or BAS certification (e.g., Niagara N4, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo).
- Universal EPA 608 certification.
- Experience with CMMS and digital maintenance systems.
- Experience in commercial office buildings, hospitals, or industrial facilities.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Washington, DC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
