Director of Accounting
A rapidly growing organization is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead and expand its accounting operations. This role will oversee core accounting functions, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, and partner with senior leadership on strategic financial initiatives. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, proven team leadership, and experience operating in a fast-paced, scaling environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, and revenue recognition
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Develop, mentor, and manage the accounting team
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls and accounting policies
- Manage external audits and coordinate tax filings
- Enhance processes, systems, and automation to support growth and scalability
- Partner cross-functionally on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, due diligence, and potential M&A activity
- Research and implement new accounting standards
- Support executive leadership with financial strategy and business initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (advanced degree preferred)
- CPA or CMA strongly preferred
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience managing audits and external audit relationships
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams
- ERP and accounting system expertise
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with system implementations and multi-state or cross-border tax exposure is a plus
