Medical Secretary
San Jose, CA
$25 - $32/hour
Are you organized, empathetic, and passionate about supporting patient care? We’re looking for a Medical Secretary who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment and plays a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly—from managing appointments and patient records to supporting medical staff with administrative excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Select surgery dates based upon scheduling availability, diagnosis, urgency, and MD preferences
- Enter and/or verify demographic and insurance information
- Process incoming referrals based on the clinic and department policy
- Schedule appointments
- Verify the insurance card is up to date in the system
- Check eligibility
- Keep current daily/weekly/monthly order & task reports per clinic policy
- Schedule committee meetings, seminars, vacations, and personal appointments on the provider’s calendar
- Collect and distribute mail
- Send out notifications to managers and other persons/entities of provider changes in the schedule so that appropriate staffing and surgery schedule adjustments can be made
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of administrative experience in a medical setting
- Experience with ICD-10 and CPT- 4 coding
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to relate sensitively to patients
- Ability to communicate well
