Duties & Responsibilities:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepares treatment room for patients by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
- Asks about patient’s medical history and takes blood pressure and pulse.
- Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).
- Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments and equipment to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist’s access; suctioning; passing instruments.
- Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient’s mouth.
- Takes impression of patient’s teeth for study casts (models of teeth).
- Documents dental care services by charting in patient record utilizing eClinialWorks.
- Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control and postoperative instructions.
- Complies with all Agency and clinic policies and procedures along with HIPAA regulations.
- Provides accurate information and appropriate assistance to patients, visitors and medical team of the clinic.
- Uses good judgement and appropriate resources in dealing with difficult patients.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and continuing education as appropriate.
- Inventories track and manage adequate stock of dental supplies.
- Managing the dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA and CDC standards.
- Assists in projects such as quality assurance studies as directed by the Dental Director or Clinic Manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily complete job:
- Current CA Dental Assistant license.
- At least 2-3 years of experience working in community setting.
- Knowledgeable of clinic and dental/patient protocols.
- Must be able to put patients at ease and explain dentists’ instructions precisely and accurately.
- Ability to proceed on own initiative using independent judgment and discretion.
- Possess excellent coordination skills along with verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal and time management skills.
- Excellent chair-side manners.
- Must be neat, well-groomed and have a courteous, pleasant manner.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to be proficient and timely with multiple deadlines.
- Familiarity with medical records administration and proficient with computer technology.
- Must be bilingual English and Vietnamese or Spanish.
