An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse with Medical-Surgical and Oncology experience to support adult oncology patients on a specialized Med/Surg Oncology Unit located in Henrico, VA. This role provides direct patient care and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes in a hospital setting known for high standards of oncology nursing practice.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop and implement effective care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes within a 36-bed oncology unit.
- Administer medications safely and provide education and emotional support to patients and families.
- Act as a clinical leader and advocate for patient safety, collaborating with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams.
- Float to other Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed, demonstrating adaptability across care settings.
- Utilize advanced nursing skills including management of multi-system failure, hemodynamic monitoring, and use of specialized equipment such as Alaris pumps and Hercules beds.
- Participate proactively in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with professional nursing practice models.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license eligible for practice in the state or covered under the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Minimum one year of RN experience, with at least six months in an acute care hospital; oncology and med/surg experience preferred.
- BLS and NIH Stroke Scale certification required; ACLS and critical care certifications are advantageous.
- Ability to pass EKG competency exam at orientation (study materials provided).
- Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts with a 36-hour workweek, including every other weekend and major holidays.
- Residency outside a 50-mile radius of the facility required, emphasizing this as a travel contract opportunity.
