Job Title: Quality Technician

Job Description

The Quality Technician supports a dairy manufacturing facility by performing routine testing on in-process and finished products to ensure they meet strict food safety and quality standards. This role focuses on quality control and quality assurance activities in a laboratory setting, working closely with a collaborative quality team to maintain the integrity of milk, flavored milks, and cultured dairy products.

Responsibilities

  • Collect in-process and finished product samples and test them to verify compliance with established quality and safety standards.
  • Perform basic analytical testing, including pH measurements, wet chemistry techniques, and basic microbiological testing on dairy products.
  • Use laboratory equipment and pipetting techniques accurately to conduct analyses and ensure reliable test results.
  • Document and record all test results clearly and accurately in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Support experienced technicians by assisting with daily lab tasks and contributing to efficient lab operations and workflow.
  • Participate in organoleptic (taste) testing of dairy products as part of overall quality evaluation and product assessment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment by following established sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and quality protocols consistently to support food safety and product quality.
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians and plant personnel to address quality issues and support continuous improvement.
  • Spend limited time in the production plant to collect air samples and other environmental samples as needed for quality monitoring.

Essential Skills

  • Quality-minded approach with strong focus on food safety, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Experience or exposure to quality control and quality assurance concepts in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory practices, including handling samples, using lab equipment, and following test procedures, or a demonstrated willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform basic analytical testing such as pH measurements, wet chemistry techniques, and basic microbiological testing.
  • Proficiency with pipetting techniques and careful handling of laboratory instruments and materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures precisely.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to accurately document and record test results in line with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Comfort consuming dairy products as part of product evaluation and organoleptic testing.
  • Effective teamwork skills and willingness to support colleagues in a collaborative lab setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field such as Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Prior laboratory or quality experience is a plus but not required, making this role suitable for entry-level candidates.
  • Familiarity with food manufacturing or dairy processing environments is beneficial.
  • Interest in building a career in quality assurance, quality control, or food science.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with other technicians and plant staff.
  • Willingness to work the required hours and adapt to production schedules as needed.

Work Environment

This position is primarily laboratory-based, with approximately 90% of the workday spent in a lab environment alongside four other technicians.

8pm to 4am Monday through Friday. Training for the first 2 to 4 weeks will be on first shift.

This is a Contract position based out of O Fallon, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
