This position focuses on delivering high-quality nursing services within the Emergency Room Psychiatric unit in a prominent Kansas City hospital. Qualifications & Experience:
- Current Kansas or Compact Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum of 1 year experience in Emergency Room nursing
- Minimum of 1 year experience in Psychiatric nursing (hospital preferred)
- Strong skills in psychiatric assessments and care for violent or high-risk patients
- Ability to work independently and make critical clinical decisions in a fast-paced ED environment
Responsibilities:
- Provide primary nursing care to two high-risk psychiatric patients per shift, including medication administration, restraint use, and de-escalation techniques
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations of patients entering the Emergency Room to determine appropriate disposition, such as inpatient admission or involuntary hold
- Collaborate with inpatient units, state hospitals, and emergency teams to coordinate placement and safety plans
- Respond to Behavioral Response Team calls to manage escalated patients using de-escalation strategies, setting limits, and supporting bedside staff alongside security and clinical leadership
Schedule:
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Three shifts per week
- Occasional weekend work (1-2 per month)
- Holiday coverage as needed
