DOT and FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Covered/Non-Exempt

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Cleans corrosion and treats metal surfaces per the manufacturer’s instructions and specifications.
2. Performs basic sheet metal repairs and replacement of structural parts using the following skills:
• Use measuring instruments such as rulers and grip gauges, dial calipers, micrometers, 6T gauges, etc.
• Utilize hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, drill presses, squaring shears and brakes to cut and form
• Ability to assemble parts by, bolting, screwing, and riveting
• Determine different types of fasteners used by symbol
• Remove and install minor components of aircraft structure or systems such as fairings, cargo liners, cargo floors and access panels
• Ability to repair minor or secondary structure per the manufactures SRM. Ability to perform major repairs on primary structure.

3. Fabricates replacement covering, panels, or fairings by using the removed parts as samples.
4. Ability to perform cold working, and installation of repair bushings
5. Performs and demonstrates understanding of sealing procedures of aircraft structures.
6. Ability to know the difference between interference fit, clearance, and transition ream and hole sizes.
7. Identifies the locations of pressurized areas of aircraft.
8. Opens and closes areas on the aircraft that are required to be open for inspection.
9. Applies corrosion preventatives and maintains knowledge of areas of the aircraft in which corrosion inhibiting liquids may not be applied.
10. Possesses working knowledge of ATA Codes (Chapter and Subchapters) as well as aircraft zones, narrow body airframe familiarization, and industry standards.
11. Reads maintenance manuals to identify and locate aircraft components on the aircraft and accurately implements instructions of maintenance manuals. Identifies the structural composition of aircraft (i.e. composite) prior to performing any work on the structure.

12. Performs repairs on noted discrepancies and effectively researches manufacturer’s manuals for appropriate repair procedures prior to performing repairs. Prepares and maintains simple records such as work order documentation, logs, and time and material records, as instructed.
13. Must understand edge distance, fastener pitch, hole transfer, etc.
14. Reads instructions and safety information as necessary for proper and safe completion of assigned work. Signs off aircraft maintenance paperwork as ‘Qualified Mechanic’ upon meeting all regulatory and customer program requirements.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Project Manager under the immediate supervision of the Lead S/M Mechanic to the assigned crew

SUPERVISES: Non-Supervisory role

HUMAN INTERACTION/COMMUNICATION: In performing the job, an individual in this position experiences significant interface with his or her immediate supervisor, other managers and supervisors, lead workers, other employees, and contract workers.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience providing knowledge narrow and wide body airframe techniques, terminology, parts, etc.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required. Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate is preferred.

SAFETY: Works safely and follow safety rules and regulations. Reports unsafe working conditions and behavior. Takes reasonable prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices. Adheres to North State’s SMS safety culture.

MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE: Performance is measured by the degree of success in performing the essential functions of the job. Annual performance evaluations are given upon periodic review and input from the Manager.
