Scope of Work:
Provides classroom instruction in one of the specialty areas and helps plan events specifically related to their instructional focus
Experience Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Experience teaching in specific content area
- 2 years classroom teaching experience preferred
- Must be comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment and committed to embracing differences and valuing multiple perspectives
Education/Certification Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree
- Clear CORI and MA fingerprinting
General Responsibilities:
Design and prepare an inviting and challenging environment using a full array of content specific materials, texts, and online applications. Prepare students for achievement in your content area: World Language, Art, Music, PE, Nature or Design Lab/STEM as well as for their safety and well being. Communicate and collaborate with families and colleagues regarding the progress of students and their individualized learning needs.
Specific Responsibilities:
Specialist Program & Student Services:
- Demonstrate competency with methods and learning in your specialty
- Plan and implement curriculum appropriate to your specialty
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists in innovating new curricula or areas of study
- Prepare an environment in which furnishings and materials are complete and correspond to the needs of the class
- Set clear expectations for responsibilities and class routines
- Give lessons to students in groups (and to individual students as applicable)
- Prepare students for school events such as the Art and Design Showcase, Winter and Spring Concerts, Spanish Assembly, Toddler Olympics, Field Day, dLab Shark Tank, etc.
- Teach extensions to the curriculum as needed such as Open Studio. (may be included as part of the After School Enrichment Program)
- Recognize when students are not progressing as expected and communicate this to administration and families for collaboration and follow-up
- Follow recommendations for students with an IEP, 504, neuropsych evaluation, or who receive support through a specialist (Early Intervention, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, etc.) and ensure that they have the supports in place to be successful
- Support students with individual behavioral plans
- Train and supervise children regarding emergency practices such as fire drills
Constituent Relations:
- Build productive relationships with parents through parent education events and parent meetings if concerns arise
- Build positive relations with community organizations to support specific classroom curriculum and service learning
Administration:
- Prepare progress reports for each child (twice yearly) to assess skills and progress in your area of study
- Submit progress reports to administration
- Maintain class attendance
- Work collaboratively with administration to address concerns regarding students, parents and staff
- Report all accidents/ incidents to administration and complete accident forms as needed
- Attend weekly faculty meetings and specialist meetings as scheduled
- Attend all mandatory events
- Perform recess duties

Professional Development
- Attend in-service training as provided by Riverbend School
- Attend one goal-related conference per year to further professional development
