Registered Nurse - First Assist (RNFA) – San Luis Obispo, CA, United States. Start date: 05/18/2026. Duration: 13 weeks. Weekly pay: $2,624-$2,704 per week. Guaranteed Hours: 0.0. Shift: 5x8 days. Setting: Short Term Acute Care Hospital. This is a travel - temporary assignment.

Responsibilities
- Provide intraoperative RNFA coverage and actively assist the surgical team during procedures, with emphasis on primary spine, ortho, and robot-assisted surgeries.
- Maintain sterile technique, assist with draping, instrument handling, suturing, and specimen management; manage counts and implant inventory as required.
- Collaborate with surgeons to plan cases, ensure proper patient positioning, and set up equipment and instruments for spine, orthopedic, and robotic cases.
- Monitor patient status intraoperatively in coordination with anesthesia; communicate changes promptly to the team and respond to intraoperative events.
- Document intraoperative events, implants, equipment use, and care provided; contribute to accurate post-anesthesia handoffs and surgical records.
- Participate in call requirements, including being available for call at least twice per week and every 3rd weekend, per program policy.
Requirements
- Active RN license in the state of practice (California)
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
- Certifications: BLS required (American Heart Association); ACLS and PALS preferred
- Experience: Minimum 2 years RNFA experience; minimum 3 years of experience in the submitted unit specialty within the last 3 months; one year of prior full-time operating room experience required
- Special qualifications: Must have experience in primary spine, ortho, and robot surgeries
- Additional: Current RNFA practice in an operating room setting and ability to work a 5x8 day shift with call
