Job Description
Job DescriptionShape safer care, one hospital visit at a time
At STERIS, our purpose is to help Customers create a healthier, safer world through innovative healthcare and life sciences solutions. As a remote Field Service professional, you’ll be the face of STERIS inside hospital environments—bringing operating rooms and sterile processing departments the reliability they count on.
A day in this role
You start your day from home, review your schedule, and head to a hospital with your company-provided vehicle, phone, and laptop. On site, you diagnose and repair surgical support equipment—sterilizers, washers, ultrasonics, steam generators, and cart washers—part of STERIS’s flagship OEM portfolio spanning 160 distinct models. You’ll also handle new installs and upgrades across mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic systems, keeping critical equipment running.
What you’ll own
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain STERIS and competitive equipment used in surgical and sterile processing settings.
- Independently plan your day to complete preventive maintenance, service and warranty calls, installations, and field upgrade programs.
- Use digital tools to document work, meet regulatory compliance needs, and escalate complex issues with Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management.
- Present repair options, pricing, and timelines to Customers; collaborate with Sales—with leadership support—to enhance Customer experience and spot revenue opportunities.
- Support multiple facilities within your territory based on Customer contracts and needs.
Who thrives here
Many successful specialists come from HVAC, refrigeration, boilers/chillers, diesel or automotive, aviation maintenance, industrial equipment repair, plumbing, electrical, or general mechanics/maintenance.
What you’ll bring
- High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of work experience, including 2+ years in a mechanical/technical role. An Associate’s degree, relevant certifications, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may count toward the technical requirement.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet background and physical assessment elements required to obtain and maintain vendor credentialing.
- Experience engaging with Customers and teammates; clear written and verbal communication.
- Comfort with basic computer tasks (Windows, email, navigation, mobile apps, and data entry across multiple systems).
- Flexibility for early/late hours and occasional overnights based on Customer and business needs; ability to meet hospital/Customer credentialing requirements.
