Manager, Program and Health Equity


JOB SUMMARY:

The Manager, Program and Health Equity will lead the development and delivery of educational programs and initiatives for people living with cancer, their care partners, and loved ones. Role scope includes the conceptualizing, planning, writing, implementation, and dissemination of programs to better understand and support the patient and caregivers experience of living with cancer. This position will identify ways in which current and future CSC programs can be used, enhanced, and adapted for larger and more diverse audiences. The Manager of Programs will assist internal departments and Network Partners in using CSC programs, support services, and materials and assist the Department in overall operations.

The ideal candidate will possess highly effective interpersonal and collaborative skills as well as excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Preferably, the candidate should possess grant-writing skills to develop persuasive and sound grant applications. This person will collaborate effectively with both internal associates in the organization as well as outside advocacy organizations, healthcare partners, and network partners on joint initiatives. The ideal individual for this role will have: at least two years of program management experience, ideally in a nonprofit or publication setting; excellent written and oral communications skills; excellent plain language writing and editing skills; and knowledge of health literacy best practices. Masters degree in social and behavioral sciences, public health, or communications, a plus.

The candidate must be a highly effective collaborator, a creative thinker, and have a strong interest in and ability to develop educational programming and communications.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage multiple Program initiatives and projects through concept development, content writing utilizing plain language and health literacy best practices, advisory board and medical review, design editing and layout, dissemination, promotion, and expansion.
  • Responsible for general oversight of every aspect of all iterations of Cancer Transitions and the expansion of new iterations of the program.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and dissemination of new projects, as assigned, including, but not limited to, Community Health Workers (CHW) and the Young Adults Program.
  • Assess needs and provide programmatic insights for medically underserved populations in the Partner Network.
  • Collaborate with other CSC HQ Departments, Network Partners, and Helpline staff regarding implementation of CSC HQ programs.
  • Collaborate with and support Strategic Growth regarding the promotion of completed program initiatives.
  • Review and update Program-related web content.
  • Identify new funding sources and partnerships for the Department.
  • Grant writing and proposal development and submission, as assigned.
  • Track funding, proposal data, and other process related departmental tasks as it relates to programs managed in this role.
  • Represent and support CSC at conferences and other events.
  • Manage project contractors, as assigned.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to program interns, as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including knowledge of plain language health writing and health literacy best practices.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to quickly develop productive, collaborative relationships with CSC staff, leadership, partners, and other external stakeholders.
  • Successful experience in community outreach, marketing, coalition building, or advocacy.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed, including the ability to work independently, to take the lead role on assigned projects, and to multi-task effectively while maintaining attention to detail, accuracy of work product, and meeting deadlines.
  • Team player, creative thinker, effective problem-solver, and customer service orientation.
  • General administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Project management software experience, a plus.
  • Experience with community health education among minority and/or underserved communities, a plus.
  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish or other non-English language, a plus.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite


EDUCATION:

Masters degree in public health, social work, or related social sciences field required.

A bachelors degree in a related field may be considered with a minimum of five (5) years of program management experience.


EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years of program management and development experience, preferably in health equity, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), public health, cancer, or chronic illness. Candidates leveraging internships, volunteer work, or extracurricular activities to demonstrate experience should specify details in the cover letter.

CSC has offices located in Washington D.C. and offers in-person, hybrid, or fully remote work for this position.
