Alternatives For Girls is seeking an associate teacher to join the dedicated Little Dreamers staff.

Shift: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8 hours/day, sometimes working until 8pm. This candidate must be able to be flexible as the timing of the shift may change week to week.

Job Summary:

The Associate Teacher will be responsible for providing education and care to shelter and community children. Under the guidance of the Teacher and the Director the Associate Teacher will be responsible for daily care routines and educational activities for the children. They are responsible for maintaining and encouraging an educational environment that is developmentally appropriate, nurturing, holistic, and monitoring the ongoing safety of children. The Associate Teacher should be experienced and compassionate about teaching early childhood education curriculum to children between the ages of 0-5.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Associate Teacher is responsible to work with the Teacher to ensure the daily care and education of every child, by following all licensing guidelines, Michigan Department of Education Early Childhood Standards of Quality and implementing all company standards
  • The Associate Teacher will help to assist in planning and implementing engaging learning experiences in an environment that is organized, clean and promotes learning through discovery
  • The Associate Teacher will attend all staff training sessions, meetings and programs sponsored by the Center, as required
  • The Associate Teacher will complete all training per licensing and Great Start to Quality guidelines
  • The Associate Teacher is responsible for snack preparation, feeding, modeling table manners at family style meals, diapering, toileting, and daily care routines of the children
  • The Associate Teacher is responsible for implementing lessons under the guidance of the Lead Teacher
  • The Associate Teacher will engage with families in a respectful, collaborative manner noting that parents are the first teachers of children
  • The Associate Teacher will observe the development of children, record data on development and meet with the Teacher and or Director to discuss the development of each child
  • Performs other related duties as requested by Child Care Center Director
  • Available to work non-traditional hours i.e. (between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM)

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of and passion for Early Childhood Education and AFG programs and initiatives
  • Experience working in an early childhood care center
  • Ability to set priorities, take initiative, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Strong communication skills, diplomacy and tact

Requirements: Incumbents and/or Applicants must meet 1 of the following qualifications:

  1. Associate degree or higher in early childhood education or child development,
  2. CDA Credential (Child Development Associate – Council for Professional Recognition)

Preferred:

1. Experience working with infants and toddlers in a licensed early childhood program

2. Infant Mental Health Credential

3. Experience working with adult learners

4. Experience using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire

5. Experience providing family/parent education services

6. Experience with marginalized communities
