Job DescriptionHealth Information Technician (HIT) / Inventory Clerk – Correctional Healthcare Setting
Location: Columbus
Shift: 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Contract Type: Long Term We are currently seeking a Health Information Technician (HIT) / Medical Inventory Clerk to support a healthcare facility within an adult correctional system. This role combines administrative responsibilities with storeroom and inventory management functions. Important: This position is located within a correctional facility. Candidates must be comfortable working in an environment with incarcerated individuals. Although administrative in nature, this role does involve direct interaction with inmates. Scrubs are required at all times.Position OverviewThe HIT will perform a blend of administrative and inventory duties to support medical staff and ensure smooth daily operations. This role may be more office-based or storeroom-focused depending on operational needs.Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine administrative tasks supporting physicians, nursing staff, and healthcare units
- Answer phones and take verbal orders as needed
- Order medical supplies and maintain accurate inventory levels
- Ensure availability of patient care equipment (wheelchairs, crutches, braces, etc.)
- Unpack, verify, and stock incoming supplies; report discrepancies
- Perform cycle counts and maintain inventory accuracy
- Retrieve and fulfill supply requisitions; deliver to appropriate departments
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate reordering with purchasing
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) method
- Identify, remove, and document expired inventory
- Track inbound/outbound orders to prevent shortages or overstock
- Maintain inventory records, purchase orders, and supply chain documentation
- Respond to vendor and internal inquiries regarding orders
- Package and process returns with accurate labeling
- Assist with supply chain reporting, forecasting, and data analysis
Qualifications
- Previous experience in healthcare, medical records, or inventory/storeroom preferred
- Strong Excel skills required (tracking, reporting, inventory management)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working in a correctional healthcare setting
Additional Requirements
- Must be comfortable working around incarcerated individuals
- Must wear scrubs at all times
- Ability to float to different units if needed
