Job Description
The Quality Control Technician works in a textile color evaluation laboratory, assessing production samples to ensure they meet pre-approved color standards. This role focuses on visually evaluating color, establishing and applying color tolerances, and making clear pass/fail decisions that directly impact production quality. The technician collaborates closely with other lab staff and quality control teams to maintain consistent, high-quality color standards across all production lots.
Responsibilities
- Receive and gather production samples for color evaluation in the lab.
- Conduct visual assessments of textile colors to determine whether products meet pre-approved color standards.
- Establish and apply appropriate color tolerances when evaluating production lots.
- Make clear pass/fail decisions on production lots based on color quality and adherence to standards.
- Articulate and communicate color decisions, including the reasons for pass or fail outcomes, to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of evaluations and decisions, ensuring thorough documentation of color assessments.
- Input comments, evaluation data, and decisions into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with attention to detail.
- Work alongside the quality control laboratory team using a benchtop spectrophotometer to ensure QC requirements are achieved.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other lab technicians and quality control inspectors to support consistent quality standards.
- Perform inspection and quality control activities related to color, samples, and laboratory procedures as needed.
Essential Skills
- Strong color acuity and the ability to accurately distinguish subtle color differences.
- Ability to pass the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test with a Superior rating (score less than 16).
- Comfort working in a laboratory environment, including handling samples and lab equipment.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry and recordkeeping.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills for explaining color decisions and documenting results.
- Experience or familiarity with quality control and inspection processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with lab technicians and quality control inspectors.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with laboratory work in textiles, color, chemistry, or a related field.
- Familiarity with benchtop spectrophotometers and color measurement equipment.
- Background in quality control, inspections, or laboratory sample evaluation.
- Experience entering and managing data in Excel and maintaining organized records.
- Strong interpersonal and people skills to support a collaborative, community-focused environment.
Work Environment
This role is based in a textile color evaluation laboratory that focuses on color quality for production lots. The work is performed on a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The environment is lab-based, requiring comfort around laboratory equipment, samples, and quality control instruments such as a benchtop spectrophotometer. The workplace culture is described as very friendly and kind, promoting a strong sense of community and collaboration. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carlstadt, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
