Role Summary:
The Superintendent manages the day-to-day on-site operations of a construction project, ensuring the work is carried out safely, on schedule, and according to the project plans and quality standards. This role is the key field leader on a project, coordinating subcontractors and construction crews on residential or commercial job sites. The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager to deliver a successful project and represents the contractor in daily interactions on the job site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee daily construction activities on the job site, coordinating
subcontractors, suppliers, and site labor to meet the project schedule.
- Review construction drawings and specifications daily to plan work and verify that all
installations meet the project requirements and quality standards.
- Create and adjust short-term schedules (look-ahead schedules) for on-site work,
aligning crews and subcontractors with upcoming tasks and deadlines.
- Lead on-site meetings such as daily huddles or weekly subcontractor meetings to
communicate objectives, work plans, and address any coordination issues.
- Enforce strict safety standards on site: conduct regular safety meetings (toolbox talks),
monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, and promptly address any safety issues or
incidents.
- Inspect ongoing work and completed work for craftsmanship and compliance with
plans; work with subcontractors to correct any deficiencies.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager to report progress, plan future work, and discuss
any changes or resource needs; assist in verifying and documenting change order work on
site.
- Maintain daily logs and reports detailing work performed, weather conditions,
equipment and personnel on site, delays, and any significant occurrences.
- Coordinate inspections with city/county officials or third-party inspectors and ensure
any required corrections are addressed in a timely manner.
Job Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on construction experience
- Strong knowledge of construction trades, methods, and sequences, with experience in
both residential and commercial projects.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schedules, and to plan ahead for upcoming construction activities.
- Excellent leadership and team coordination skills to manage on-site workforce and keep
subcontractors accountable.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with subcontractors, inspectors, the project team, and occasionally clients or owners representatives on site
- Solid understanding of safety regulations and practices
