About the Role:

The Risk Manager plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organization by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with health care and social assistance operations. This position is responsible for developing and implementing risk management strategies that align with regulatory requirements and organizational goals. The Risk Manager will work closely with various departments to ensure that risk assessments are conducted regularly and that appropriate measures are in place to minimize potential liabilities. By analyzing data and trends, the Risk Manager will provide insights that inform decision-making and enhance the overall safety and efficiency of the organization. Ultimately, this role aims to protect the organization’s assets, reputation, and the well-being of its clients and employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare setting, with exposure to quality improvement and patient safety
  • Degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or a related field
  • RN

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional certification in risk management (e.g., Certified Risk Manager, Associate in Risk Management).
  • Experience with regulatory reporting and compliance in the health care sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential risks in health care operations.
  • Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures to mitigate identified risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Monitor and report on risk management activities, including the effectiveness of mitigation strategies.
  • Provide training and support to staff on risk management practices and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to standards set by accrediting bodies (e.g., DNV, CMS) and assist with survey preparation and follow-up
  • Participate in readiness preparedness surveys
  • Review and facilitates the interpretation of regulations and standards to advise leadership and staff
  • Partner with staff to facilitate the investigation of patient safety events and near-misses, documenting findings and implementing preventive measures
  • Collaborate in the management of the reporting process for adverse events and regulatory compliance

Due diligence skills are utilized to ensure that all aspects of risk are thoroughly evaluated before making decisions. Portfolio management skills help in overseeing various risk-related projects and ensuring they align with the organization's objectives. Regulatory reporting skills are crucial for maintaining compliance with health care regulations and standards, while mitigation skills are applied to implement proactive measures that protect the organization. Additionally, knowledge of workers' compensation and hedging strategies enhances the Risk Manager's ability to manage financial risks effectively.
