Position Summary
The Housekeeping Supervisor works with the Executive Housekeeper to assist in the supervision of the housekeeping and laundry operation to ensure product quality standards are met and that optimum service is provided to hotel guests according to hotel and company business objectives. In addition to inspecting rooms and training room attendants, this position will perform cleaning duties in all areas of the hotel. The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for delivering clean rooms for occupancy that meet the brand’s time, product, and placement standards.
Essential Functions
- Partner with the Executive Housekeeper to recruit, develop, manage, and monitor performance while making any recommendations for disciplinary and other human resources-related actions.
- Inspect all assigned suites and public areas to ensure furnishings, guest suites, equipment, linens, and public areas are clean and in good repair to meet guest expectations. Advise employees of deficiencies and instruct on corrective action. Provide retraining as needed.
- Assist with training of employees and ensuring that they have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their respective job duties.
- Assist with scheduling and room cleaning assignments to ensure proper coverage.
- May perform all housekeeping duties necessary including cleaning guest suites and hotel public space to ensure guest satisfaction and owner expectations.
- Partner with the Executive Housekeeper to inventory and maintain par levels for linen and room supplies.
- Monitor commercial laundry supplies and equipment to ensure they are sufficient and in working order.
- Responsible for smooth operation of the room assignments.
- Supervise Room Attendants during the workday.
- Daily allocation of rooms and deep cleaning tasks to team members.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of guest rooms, corridors, and heart of the house area of the building.
- Checks the occupied and departure rooms, giving special attention to guest needs.
- Ensures that the entire operation is performed as per hotel/brand and company standards.
- Manage guest requests, including VIP amenities and communicating them to the relevant team members
- Routine inspection of guest bedrooms to ensure they meet standards.
- Manage procedures of lost and found items.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other shifts and departmental management.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding health and safety services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.
Team Members with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Upon employment, all Team Members are required to fully comply with hotel rules and regulations for safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Team Members who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
All team members are required to fully comply with the rules and standards set forth by the Canopy by Hilton Boston Downtown, Olshan Properties, and Hilton Hotels Corporation.
Supportive Functions
In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Executive Housekeeper based upon the requirements of the hotel.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and can explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Previous background from the extended stay industry preferred.
- Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English, other languages beneficial.
- Reading and writing abilities are required to document tasks completed, to order supplies, to receive instructions for the day and/or to read equipment manuals including safety information.
- Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
- Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities.
- Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
- Frequently standing up, bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving about the facility.
- Will be required to regularly use commercial cleaning chemicals.
- Carrying, lifting, or pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and walk 8 hours or longer in duration.
- Will be required to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus two years housekeeping experience including some supervisory training/experience.
Experience:
- 1 year in a Supervisory role
- 3 years in hospitality
Licenses or certificates:
- Any licenses or permits that may be required by law or company regulations, such as an Electrician's license.
Other:
- Additional language ability preferred.
- Experience with opening new hotels or extensive renovation projects.
- Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
